Move Computer Accounts

You can move computers to different objects in the domain. A computer account is assigned permissions when you move the computer account to another location. You can move a computer account anywhere in the domain. You must possess administrative rights to move computer accounts. In addition, you can move computer accounts across domains. You must move computer accounts in the domain to restrict permissions and ensure security. You can use the Move tree tool to move computer accounts across domains.

To move a Computer Account:

1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers console. The Active Directory Users and Computers console appears.

2. Click Computers. The list of computers appears.

3. Select the computer to move.

4. Select Action -> Move. The Move dialog box appears.

5. Select the object to move the computer account.

6. Click OK. Windows Server 2003 moves the computer account to the specified object.
