Service Packs
Microsoft combines the updates, security patches, and hot fixes in a single file called the service pack. You can download the service pack from the Microsoft Web site. In addition, you can also obtain the service pack in a CD from Microsoft. You can install the service pack by double clicking the executable file.
When you install a service pack, the service pack wizard creates a backup of the system files and then copies the new versions of the system files. It also creates a backup of the system registry. The service pack files are stored in %System Root%\Windows\Service Pack Files folder.
You can also remove the service pack if you experience problems after installing the service pack. You can remove the service pack by using the Add/Remove Programs window from the control panel. If you choose to uninstall the service pack, Windows Server 2003 restores the original system files and restores the registry.
